Tested and trusted tips for cleaning walls before painting

If you are preparing to paint your walls of your house this year, there are some certain things that you are going to want to remember to do before doing that.

Although this notion may seem rather absurd to some people, some actually think that painting a wall is actually considered a substitute of cleaning it. The reality is, this is far from the truth, and if you are going to be painting your walls, you are going to want to first clean them.

1) Some of the dust on your walls may not come off as easily as you think because of some things that may have made it adhere, like grease or smoke. For situations like this, you are going to want to enlist the help of Sodium Triphosphate, or STP, which will help you deal with that sticky dust. STP can easily be found at a local store, and after you have put it on your wall you can just wipe it down with a sponge and some soap.

2) If you are going to be painting your wall, a good step to take is to sand down the wall that you are going to be working with. However, this is not always necessary provided the type of wall you are working on. Although the idea of using sandpaper on your current wall paint before painting it again may sound rather silly to some people, it is a pretty smart idea because it is meant to rough up the surface, which would then allow the new coat of paint to stick to the surface. It is a commonly used method by a lot of painters.

3) One of the most effective ways to prepare the walls in your home for a new coat of paint is actually to use a magic eraser on them. You can benefit from this in many ways, as it not only gets rid of any sort of smudge, but also any dirt and grime that may have built up over years.

4) Sometimes when you see the paint that you are working with peeling off, it is not always because you didn’t take the proper precautions before painting it, as that is not always going to be the case. Sometimes, especially if you are in the bathroom, time and moisture will cause the paint to eventually peel off, even when you are using the special types of paint!

5) Before painting a wall, some people may wonder what the right time is to paint. That is, some people may be a little lost on whether or not their wall is ready for a new coat of paint. This can easily be achieved by putting some painter’s tape on the wall and then pulling it off. If the tape shows signs of resistance when you pull it up, that typically means that you are ready to paint the new wall. However, if you see that it comes off easily, then that typically means that it needs to be cleaned a little bit more.
