The word DIY or do it yourself is becoming very popular. It does not just stay as a phrase but an action plan as well. House painting is one of them. More and more people wanted to learn to do things by themselves instead of hiring a professional to do it. The reasons are noble and practical. One of them is earning you a few to several bucks of savings.

One thing though that “Do it Yourselfers” misses out is the skills and expertise of professional painters. They have developed this skills through years of painting experiences. Most likely the painting job of amateurs is not as sharp and professional looking as compared to professional house painters. Although this is the case, it should not discourage want to be painters to start doing their walls. Here are a few tricks or tips to make your painting strokes and painting job in general as tidy as possible.

First of all before applying a new paint, remove the old paint. Your old paint might be peeling off already and it can contain molds and dew. You can remove old paint by buying a scraper in hardware stores for a few bucks. Choose a good quality scraper and also one can give you a good grip. Scrapers have slanting blades to scrape more paints.

Be sure to stir your paint thoroughly so that resin sitting at the bottom of the container will blend well. Add a paint conditioner for suave and effortless strokes. Choose methylated spirit based paint as this prevents molding and effectively conceals marks that are usually left by pen inks. Just have enough paint on your container, overfilling it might leads your brush to be soaked with too much paint which can mess up your painting job. Also, leave one side of your container clean for a space to lay your brush.

Select good brush. They may cause a bit more however, it can make a big difference on your painting results. First, it can hold more paint, cause less trickle, and allows you to make more strokes. Quality paint brushes can also leave a better and more even painting job results.

House painters have this painting technique known as “cutting in”. This simply means painting first the borders of the entire painting work area using only your sense of sight in making straight angles. The secret to becoming an expert on this technique is practice, practice, and more practice.

Other than using a paintbrush, sprayers are also popular among paint contractors. For one, sprayers is faster than a paintbrush and can save you a lot of time. Sprayers also give a more even finish.

Another painting tool is the roller. Just a quick tip, just roll in one direction – away from you. Start at the middle of the wall not at the edge to offload any extra paint. Always roll from top to bottom as smoothly as you can. Generally it will take about 2 to 3 coats to finish the task.

After your painting job always clean up the clutter. Paint residues on your brush can dry up easily especially on a hot a day. If you will use it the next day, cover it with a wet cloth. Don’t wait till the paint brittles on the fibres of your brush, you may also soak it in water immediately after painting.
